A fruit press crushes apples, grapes and other fruit or mash to separate juice from pulp. Some use a hydraulic jack, one described here uses tap-water pressure, and others rely on a hand-turned screw with a T-handle. Baskets are wood or stainless steel, and capacities range from about 6 to 40 liters.

The six presses below differ in size, drive and materials. Figures come from each product’s listing page, and performance statements such as yield are the makers’ own. We have not used these presses ourselves.

The 6 Best Fruit Presses

1. Mosakar 10.6 Gallon Hydraulic Fruit Press

A 40 liter press with a hydraulic jack the maker says gives 5 tons of pressure, AISI 304 stainless steel for the pressing plate, basket and juice tray, a powder-coated frame, an adjustable-height tray leg and a beam that turns 90 degrees to open the basket. It weighs 85 pounds and measures 20 by 17.3 by 31.6 inches.

Suits: large harvests. Strengths: a jack drive and stainless contact parts. Weaknesses: heavy and bulky. Skip it if you press small batches.

2. Water-Driven Hydraulic Fruit Press, 10.7 Gallon

A 40 liter stainless steel press that the listing says runs on household water pressure through a garden hose, with a maximum 3 bar setting, a filter bag and a splash guard. Despite the hydraulic name, there is no jack, and the 46.8 pound weight may be for the package. The listing has no brand name in the data we read.

Suits: a large press without hand cranking. Strengths: a hose-driven design. Weaknesses: it needs a tap and hose connection. Skip it if you press away from running water.

3. WQV 3.2 Gallon Hydraulic Fruit Wine Press

A 12 liter hand-jack press with a 1.6 mm stainless outer barrel, a stainless inner barrel and tray, strainer holes, a side outlet and a labor-saving handle. The listing says to keep the jack vertical and not to press hard food materials, and lists apples, grapes, carrots, cheese and olive oil as uses.

Suits: a small hydraulic press. Strengths: a jack at a small size. Weaknesses: only 12 liters. Skip it if you press large batches.

4. SQUEEZE master Solid Wood Basket Fruit Press, 4.75 Gallon

A hand-powered press with a solid wood basket, a T-shaped handle, one filter bag and an 18 liter capacity; the maker says it handles 22 to 33 pounds of fruit per load. It stands 40.1 inches tall. The detail table also lists 250 watts, which makes no sense for a hand press.

Suits: a traditional wooden look. Strengths: a wood basket and included bag. Weaknesses: a conflicting wattage entry. Skip it if you want an all-metal press.

Specs to Check Before Ordering

  • Drive type, and whether it needs water, a hose or extra tools.
  • Capacity in liters, and how much the maker says a load holds.
  • Basket material and what the maker says about cleaning.
  • Whether filter bags are included.
  • Assembled size and weight against your space.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Assuming the word hydraulic means a jack.
  • Reading package weight as assembled weight.
  • Ignoring the maker’s warnings on what not to press.
  • Buying without checking whether filter bags are included.

Fruit Press FAQ

Are these electric?

No. They are hand, jack or water-pressure designs. The 250 watt line on the SQUEEZE master listing looks like an error.

Can they press foods other than fruit?

The makers list honey, herbs, olive oil and cheese for some models. Follow each maker’s instructions.

The Short Version

For big harvests with a jack, the Mosakar. For a hose-driven press, the water-driven model. For a small jack press, the WQV. For a wood basket, the SQUEEZE master. For two filter bags, the VEVOR. For 25 liters in stainless, the Varomorus.
