Linocut is a relief printing craft. You carve a design into a soft block, roll ink onto the raised surface and press paper or fabric onto it. A kit bundles blocks, carving tools, ink and a brayer, and many also suit rubber stamp making.

The six kits below differ in block type (rubber or true linoleum), number of blades, ink and extras such as transfer paper. Details come from each product’s listing page. We have not used these kits ourselves. Quality and sharpness claims are the makers’ own.

Specs to Check Before Ordering

  • Whether the blocks are rubber or true linoleum.
  • The number and type of blades or gouges.
  • Whether ink is included and how many colours.
  • Whether a brayer, baren and transfer paper are listed.
  • Follow the maker’s instructions for carving and for cleaning up ink.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Assuming every kit includes a baren.
  • Comparing rubber and linoleum blocks as the same thing.
  • Reading a single-block size as the kit size.
  • Ignoring which ink type suits fabric or paper.

Linocut Kit FAQ

Is rubber the same as linoleum?

No. Several kits here use soft rubber blocks, which the makers say cut more easily, while Bobblebro and ESSDEE list linoleum.

Can I print on fabric?

Some listings mention fabric prints. Check the ink type and the maker’s instructions.
